Drew Goerlitz and Switzerland – 15 year of a long and strong relationship

art-st-urban shows a wide range of sculptures by Drew Goerlitz from 2003 – 2018, which he created during his residencies in St. Urban. The strong influences of European history, of the immediate art historical environment of the Abbey St. Urban which dates back to the 11th century, the important church and convention buildings St. Urban and as well the many impressive landmarks he visited in Switzerland, are strongly reflected in his sculpture series «RELIQUARIES II».

The exhibited sculptures are statement of 15 years great further development of sculptor Drew Goerlitz and the history of the art-st-urban «Artist in Residency Support Program».

In 2003 Heinz Aeschlimann started a cooperation with ISC, International Sculpture Center, to support their «Outstanding Student Award Program», with yearly full sponsored residencies in Switzerland for the Award Winners. The 2003 juried Winner of this important Sculpture Award and recipient of the first Swiss Residency was the Master Student Drew Goerlitz. As a result of the very good experiences with this high talented young artist, Heinz Aeschlimann founded the «Artist in Residence Program Young Artists». For over 15 years now, Drew Goerlitz has been a regular invited artist and great «Ambassador» of the Residency Program in St. Urban. Beneath working on his own sculptures, he meanwhile assists as director of the studios art-st-urban during the Residencies and the «Summer Sculpture Academy Young Artists» for international young sculptors.

Drew Goerlitz lives and works in Upstate New York, he is an Associated Professor and Head of the Sculpture Department of the SUNY Plattsburgh University, New York.
